Where's Waldo?

I have not had a whole lot of luck interesting either my 4 kids or any of the 12 grandkids in model railroading. When they are very young the motion fascinates them for a while but they tire of it quickly.

During the holidays the whole "B" Bunch was together. I did have some fun with the 8 year old girls playing the model railroad version of Where's Waldo? I asked them if they could find the hobo camp on the layout. It's out of the way from most of the actions. They scrambled around and loved the hunt and were soon asking for more. "Tell us something else to find!" They ran for about an hour until I ran out of things to send them searching for. So I am compiling a list for their next visit.

·         Find the hobos

·         Find the guy fixing a flat tire

·         Find the milk truck

·         Find the 2 stop signs - this is something of a tease since they are used to red stop signs but stop signs were yellow in the early 1950s.

·         Same with finding the yellow checker taxis - they are unfamiliar with what was common to us - a neat chance to discuss the "old days"

·         Find 2 buildings with roofers fixing the roof

·         Find both orange Roadway trucks or the 3 tow trucks scattered about the layout

·         Find the water tower, the 2 traffic circles, the auto body shop, the Pepsi tank car, the cement mixer, ....
